A real gem from British rock drummer Cozy Powell, famous for his contribution on recordings for a wide variety of noteworthy British artists, including Black Sabbath and Peter Green. Killer drum breaks and fantastic instrumentation and vocals, you can't go wrong. Released in 1973 on Rak.

Fans of Greame Clark (The Revenge, OOFT) and Craig Smith's collaborative work as 6th Borough Project will instantly recognise this one. Xavier's 'Do It To The Max', released in 1982 on Liberty, as a single and then featuring on the LP 'Point of Pleasure'. The insane music video is well worth a watch too.

Posted this one up on The Goodness quite a while back, and here it is again for those who missed it last time. Camp boogie instrumental. Apologies for the dusty quality, I found this 45 in a friend's damp attic, along with other records which had actually started growing mold. Seriously. Still, it was a disco goldmine, and I was determined to rescue whatever I could. There's a fun Ottowan LP in there which I should probably rip sometime. But that's another post...

The original killer Teddy Pendergrass break DJ Sneak used for his instant classic Chicago house groove 'You Can't Hide From Your Bud' in 1997. Taken from his self-titled album released on Philadelphia International in 1977. With a wealth of releases spanning from a string of hits with Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes through to his extensive solo output, Teddy P is certainly going to be missed.

It's not often that boogie edits come as imaginatively dubbed out as this. Brighton's BlackLodge aka Motion XL aka Rob Fahay flips Gwen McCrae's 'Poyson' (originally released on the '81 LP 'Gwen McCrae') into a loopy, dubby chugger, tastefully building the percussive groove and holding back on the boogie goods until you're completely hooked.
Check Rob's website for more of his fine edits. He also hosts the weekly Sunday morning show on upfrontdance.net all across Brighton featuring a sure fire mix of boogie, disco and funk for anyone up early having their breakfast or still going from the previous night. And, if you're in the Brighton area (or even if you're not), you catch him down the Fishbowl Bowl Bar on the third Friday of every month playing an eclectic mix of soul, funk, disco, boogie, rare underground 60s/70s classics, the finest re-edits and some other stuff you won't be expecting, all deliciously left of centre.

Plenty of disco recently so time for a bit of rare groove goodness. Garagey funky psyche out of Korea from He6, recorded in 1971. Massive, massive breaks. Incidentally this is the same band responsible for the last minute of dusty drum break bliss on DJ Shadow's 'The Number Song'. Apologies for the less than original post title, I couldn't resist....
